The Loire and Its Secrets: Domaine des Tabourelles

Discover the History of Our Wine Estate in Loir-et-Cher

Domaine des Tabourelles is located in Touraine, a land of thousand riches where princes and legendary kings have lingered, inspiring illustrious thinkers. These names resonate and immediately evoke the idea of terroir.

The Loire, the last wild river in Europe, and its tributaries shape this valley, where many wonders remain secret, even to the locals.

The Touraine appellation vineyard stretches from Sologne to the borders of Vienne, along the hillsides bordering the Loire, Cher, and Indre. The soils, varying in nature, yield a great diversity of wines.

Explore the Loire Valley Wine Route

The Loire Valley: A Major Wine Region

The Loire Valley, the third largest wine region in France, designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (from Chalonnes-sur-Loire to Sully-sur-Loire), represents the balance between the South and the North, sweetness and freshness, arts and letters, tradition and modernity.

From these harmonious blends, favored by a temperate climate and magnificent terroirs, the most vibrant diversity of wines has emerged.

With 800 km of tourist routes, the " Wine Route" is the longest in France, featuring numerous signposts inviting you to discover an exceptional heritage along the Loire, punctuated by castles and landscapes of great diversity.

Five Generations of Winemakers at Domaine des Tabourelles

A Family Business

Our wine estate is a family estate, owned by the Germain family for five generations. It currently spans 20 hectares within the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) TOURAINE and TOURAINE CHENONCEAUX.

Coming from a family of winegrowers established in Bourré for over 100 years, Anne Josseau took over the family estate in 2009.

She brings her feminine touch by crafting white, red, and rosé wines with generous notes and fruity aromas.

On the estate, you’ll find the entrance to one of the smallest troglodyte galleries in Bourré. Stéphane Josseau, her brother-in-law, saw an opportunity there, and after a year of exploration and immersion in the site, the concept for the oenotourism activity "Troglo Degusto" was born.

Responsible Viticultural Practices: Vines and Terra Vitis

Our Objective:

  • To achieve a moderate yield through various means at our disposal (short pruning, cover cropping, observations).
  • To limit the use of pesticides using data provided by a weather station located in the heart of the vineyard and advice from a private technician.

The vines thus benefit from a much deeper rooting in the tuffeau, which imparts elements to the grapes, resulting in wines with more stable and persistent grape aromas.

This mindset has led us to the following qualifications:

  • Terra Vitis, the signature of French winemakers who respect nature and people while crafting wines for the enjoyment of tasters.
  • The Terra Vitis approach is unique in France: the entire process, from vine to bottle, is certified each year, allowing the winemaker to label their bottles with the Terra Vitis mark.

Each step of the production cycle is verified to ensure optimal quality of the product. Every year, all Terra Vitis members are audited and receive a personalized authorization to use the brand.

This rigor is reflected in the Terra Vitis wines. The various details integrated into the Terra Vitis approach allow consumers to enjoy healthy and authentic wines, fully expressing the terroir.

  • Representing all wine regions of France, Terra Vitis serves as the ambassador of French winemaking expertise.
  • Through the Terra Vitis signature, the entire diversity and quality of our regions' wines are expressed for the satisfaction of the consumer.
  • I am certified Terra Vitis and hold a second-level environmental certification (issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry).
haute valeur environnementale

The estate is also certified High Environmental Value Level 3, but what does that mean?

In 2007, the Grenelle de l’Environnement launched discussions for an ambitious initiative allowing agriculture to adopt a public system for environmental recognition and valorization: “The Environmental Certification of Agricultural Operations.”
